We are thrilled to share a FREE online R statistics course focused on Agricultural and Environmental applications!
As part of the UWA Plus Micro-credentials program, this course introduces students to data collection and statistical data analysis using R & R Studio, and thanks to Commonwealth Government Micro-credentials in Higher Education pilot grant, this course is available free of charge in 2025.

This initiative, led by Associate Professor James Fogarty, is focused on enhancing statistical literacy in agriculture and environmental sciences.
The methods covered include ANOVA and linear regression (including repeat measures designs), non-linear least squares, modelling zero-one data, modelling count data, and effective visual representations of data.
The specific context for the examples used is relevant to research and data analysis in environmental and agricultural science, environmental and agricultural economics, and environmental management.
Specifically, you will learn how to:
Collect, manage and interpret observational and experimental data relevant to agricultural and environmental applications
Formulate testable hypotheses and use appropriate statistics to test them
Use R/RStudio to prepare professional high quality reports that integrate data analysis, graphics, and general reporting;
Analyse survey data to obtain willingness-to-pay estimates for environmental assets, and evaluate the quality of estimates
Design survey instruments that can be used to obtain non-market values
Both domestic and international students that successfully complete the course are eligible to subsequently use the course as credit equivalent to 25% of one year of full-time Master degree level study at the University of Western Australia.
The course starts in February so register as soon as possible:
📅 Course Dates:
MC-1C: 26 Feb – 30 June

Separate links for Australian residents (and other eligible students) and non-Australian residents to register for the course are available:
Australian citizens (domestic and other eligible students): Register for SCIEN505
Non-Australian residents (international students): Register for SCIEM505
To find out if you should register as a domestic student, check your eligibility matches the criteria on this website: FEE-HELP - Study Assist, Australian Government. Note, this does not involve an actual FEE-HELP loan, just uses the same eligibility criteria.
